OBS-HUD is a standalone software utility that provides customizable, on-screen status icons to indicate OBS streaming and recording activity. Monitoring these OBS functions no longer requires looking to the system tray icon or main window. Instead, users have complete control and freedom to place visual icons wherever desired on their monitor(s). OBS-HUD works by monitoring the OBS application directly. When OBS starts streaming or recording, OBS-HUD automatically displays the appropriate icon on-screen. When streaming or recording stops, the icon disappears. For video recording, OBS-HUD also automatically switches the recording icon to a paused icon when the Pause function is used in OBS.

FEATURES
  • Position the status icons anywhere on your screen(s) with single-pixel precision
  • Adjust transparency setting per icon
  • Lock icon positions to prevent accidental movement
  • Create and use custom icons from PNG files
  • Easy usage. Once configured, using OBS-HUD is as simple as launching it when needed and closing it when done
  • Standalone and portable. OBS-HUD makes no changes to system files, the registry, OBS, or any other applications
  • Icons will not appear in broadcasts or recordings unless you choose an OBS recording mode that captures them
  • Works offline
  • No data collection or reporting
NOTE: Icons will not display over games/programs that render in a fullscreen or exclusive mode. If you want the icons to appear over a game window, you will likely have to set the game to Windowed or Borderless Window rendering mode.

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
  • PC running Windows 7+ x64
  • OBS Studio v26.1.1 - v30.0.2
INSTALLATION & UPDATING
  • Manually extract all files from the ZIP archive to desired location. (Recommended directory: C:\Programs\OBS-HUD\)
  • To update to a new version, extract the latest ZIP archive over the current installation and overwrite all files. Your settings file and custom icon sets will not be affected.
    • Follow the steps in obs-hud_quickstart.txt to get started quickly.
    • See obs-hud_readme.txt for additional information, including instructions for custom icon creation.
NOTES:
  • OBS-HUD must have file read/write permissions in the installation folder to load image files and save settings.
  • Multiple versions of OBS-HUD can be installed simultaneously when placed in different folders.

UNINSTALLING

Delete the OBS-HUD installation folder, all subfolders and files.

NOTES:
  • If you wish to save your settings, do NOT delete the obs-hud_settings.ini file. Copy it to a safe location before removing the program folder.
  • To preserve custom icon sets, backup the appropriate subfolder(s) and files from within the 'IconSets' directory.

Hello, I have seen that you programmed this plugin with AutoHotkey!
I'm also an ahk user and have one problem with the OBS-HUD.

I use some obs docks and your OBS-HUD on a second monitor to view if streaming is on or off, which scene is active and the chat.
I have a hotkey which enables with ahk a black "progress bar" on top on every window (alwys on top) on the second monitor. This progress bar filles the whole screen. So only when I want to see new chat messages or something else, I disable the black progress bar.
The problem is, the green streaming dot from your OBS-HUD is always on top, even on top of the ahk black progress bar, even if the bar itsels is set to alwys on top.
It is also strange, that the red dot for recording, is under the black progress bar.
Why this different behaviour between green and red dot?
Could you please make the green dot not making always on top?

The always-on-top window style of the OBS-HUD icons is intentional. Disabling that style would cripple the core design objective of creating the most reliable visual indicators of OBS status possible. AOT applications are just not suited to be run in the same screen space, as their competition for z-order priority will cause these display issues. The fact that one OBS-HUD icon shows above your progress bar application and another shows below is a perfect example. I can't explain why the z-order is working out that way, and there are innumerable possible configurations for other users I would have no way to test or understand. At this time I don't see a feasible change in OBS-HUD to address this issue.
I like this very much! :)
But one thing is anoying. I start this HUD automatic with windows.
But I am not always running OBS. When OBS is NOT running, I see always the stream and record dots. They just dissapear. when I start OBS. And then when I record or strem they appear back as they should.
Could you make it so, that the dots are not displayed, if OBS is not running?

Thanks for the feedback! I'm glad the tool is useful for you.

I will look into adding an option to hide the icons even when OBS is not running.
A great app is what I was looking for! Add only the video recording time display!

Thank you for the feedback.

I will look into the possibility of a time display feature.
