Black Screen

Hi, All.

I have a black screen that just started happening today. It worked fine on my laptop yesterday and many previous days, but now it's black. I followed the steps in the pinned Black Screen article, but it may be a bit out of date as the settings don't seem to match my OS today.

What I've tried:
  1. on laptop 1 (where it's been working fine for several weeks)
    1. I followed the article above.
    2. Reinstalled
    3. Tried catering different displays
    4. Tried a Display Capture and Window Capture (both failed)
    5. Running Win 10 22H2 (Build 19045.5011)
    6. Only 1 display adapter (AMD Readeon (driver version 31.0.21024.5005))
  2. On laptop 2:
    1. Fresh install (OBS has never been on this system)
    2. Followed the article above
    3. Tried both Display and Window captures
    4. Tried different displays
    5. Running Win 11 23H2 (Build 22631.4317)
    6. Two display adapters
      1. Intel Iris Plus Graphics, and
      2. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti with Max-Q
Also, this is only for video capture. Other screens show in the preview just fine.

Not sure where to go from here. If anyone has some ideas on what to try, let me know.

Thanks!

Hi, I seem to have a similar problem. Wanted to digitalise some tapes. It worked fine. After a break wanted to continue, now a only see a black screen. (Also if I try the tapes that I already watched before). Audio is fine. I didn't change anything to the settings. Nothing I do seems to work. Did you solve the problem in the end? Any tips on what to try?

I did, in fact, figure out my problem just a couple days ago. Turns out that the videos I need to record are encrypted. The ones that work as expected are not encrypted. Which answers why I can do this at work, but not at home.

I don't know if this will help with your problem or not, but I'm sure that's my problem.
